Agneepath is Vijay Chauhan's fight for justice his homeland Mandwa. After getting no help from the police, Vijay choses to take revenge by himself from Kancha Cheena for the murder of his his father master Dinanath Chauhan. With the help of poor people his well wishers, Vijay's main aim is also to get back his homeland Mandwa from the clutches of Kancha Cheena.

Tinnu Anand had to shave his head bald to make the age difference between him and Amitabh Bachchan, as he played the role of his uncle.

To give Amitabh Bachchan the gangster look, his mouth was stuffed with cotton wool underneath both cheeks, as was Marlon Brandos in The Godfather 1972

The movie is inspired by a poem by Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

Deepak Shirke made his debut with the film.

There was a bedroom scene in the original script after Amitabh has an argument with his mother he goes to Madhavi for comfort. Amitabh Bachchan didnt feel comfortable about it and when he asked the director to alter the scene it was removed.

Amitabh Bachchan celebrated two events on April 8, 1991 at Go Bananas, Santacruz Mumbai. The first occasion was to celebrate the actor bagging the National Award for Agneepath 1990 and the second was Jaya Bhaduris his wife birthday at the stroke of midnight.

Mithun Chakrabortys unique role of Kishnan Iyer was inspired by one of his room mates of his struggling days, before he become a popular film star. In his struggling days Mithun used to be be room sharing with Devio who used to pay rs 150 while Mithun Used to pay rs 75. Devio had the a bed while Mithun used to sleep on the floor, one specific time Mithun used his bed whilst he was at work and when Devio came back he scolded Mithun. This incident remained with Mithun and he put Devios character on screen.
