Bore In The City. That’s one of the three nicest things you can say about the plot of the movie. Such a wannabe! Parallel tales that coincide type of movie, but apart from a couple of lines like ‘English mein sorry bol’, and another ‘you cannot hear yourself think because of the noise in the city’ the dialog is so trite, you cringe. Especially when you don’t quite understand why an Indian guy (yes, yes we are told he’s come back from vilayat to set up his business) has such a thick foreign-accent, and how he could possibly think he would set up a business when he doesn’t even speak the language.
The businessman and his model girlfriend track in the movie is so lame you want to protest on behalf of the two other stories that fall short of brilliance only because the ‘firang’ needs to justify his star status and be given more footage. Now imagine the movie with just the story of the young cricketer and the three crooks. We want to know why the three crooks are casing the car when the camera cuts away to the businessman (who looks permanently hassled and unwashed)! We want to know more about the young boy’s dilemma but no! The camera cuts to the ridiculous pick-up lines of the businessman (when he’s just setting up his office, what is he carrying in his briefcase we wonder briefly). The model is as vapid as a message balloon with all it’s happy helium gone. Takes away everything from the marvelous
Radhika Apte who lets her eyes do the talking. Takes away all the attention from Tusshar Kapoor who shows us acting chops. Takes away from the wild Pitobash who could be discovery of the year. And of course it takes attention away from the always understated, but brill Zakir Hussain. These actors are the second best thing about the movie.
And now that we are counting on nice things to say about the movie, we like the way the film has been processed to look warm, but we know the movie means well, we hope that we see grittier stuff from the team. And when I say gritty, it does not necessarily mean grimy and unwashed.
Shor In The City movie revolves aroung three stories in the midst of the noise of Mumbai. The three stories run simultaneously but the characters are not connected with each other.Abhay, who is forced to come to an unwelcoming city, which he thought was home. Tilak is an honest whisky peddler who gets crooked with rowdy friends Ramesh and Mandook. They chance upon a rare loot on a local train, which opens up new, dangerous avenues for them.Young Sawan aims to get into the Mumbai Junior Cricket team. The story goes - in the overcrowded city the right and wrong are smudged.
A delicious mix of quirky humor, gruesome violence, and surprising sensitivity, 'Shor in the City' works on the strength of its smart script and consistent performances from its ensemble cast.

read full reviewRaj and DK take forever to establish the different characters and their respective stories. And that seems to be the only thing they do in the film.
read full reviewThe set-up is lovely, the writing razor sharp, the characters appealing. But while you remain engrossed almost throughout, the plot begins to get slightly monotonous somewhere in between.
read full reviewThe major problem with the film is that it takes a little too long to come to the point.
read full reviewFilms about Mumbai have always thrived on stereotypes and will continue to do so. But despite the cliches, 'Shor in the City' manages to bring it together, tickling and terrorizing you in equal proportion.
