trivia

Tabu was offered a role in the film, but turned it down because Rajkumar Santoshi was offering a salary she did not agree to.

The following statement appears before the film begins. As it is being displayed, a voice-over (presumably that of the statement's author) reads it in Hindi : "None of the characters or situations depicted in this film are imaginary or fictional, really speaking. They are echoes of what is happening all around us in our so called civilized society. At best, these voices - cries, and shrieks, pleas and whispers - have been amplified for deaf people to take note. After all, the greatness of a civilization can only be measured by the status of its women." Rajukumar Santoshi

Karisma Kapoor turned down a role in the film after finding out there was a large star cast, and did not wish to be a part of it.

Aishwarya Rai was offered a role in the film, but the movie was already very long, forcing Rajkumar Santoshi had to drop her out.

Sunny Deol was cast in the role, however, he was asking for a salary that was beyond the means of the budget, and Rajkumar Santoshi dropped him.

Namrata Shirodkar was offered to do the "Saajan Ke Ghar Jaana Hai" dance in the film, but was busy with other schedules.
