And it has Hugh Jackman for that one unforgettable Wolverine moment. (This is where I become brainless, boneless mush Fangirl.)
It's not about the best casting this side of Mars, but how the story involves you, the audience, forcing you to remember the small details of characters, and their talents as X Men, involving you at every step. This is a huge thing, considering that this is the fifth (counting Wolverine) in the series of Marvel tales. With every character, the back story is so intense, that you tend to ignore the fact that every scene starts the same way: characters stepping into the scene, camera pulls back to reveal the largeness of the canvas...
Sigh. But that's me, nitpicking at perfection. Yes, this movie is as close to perfection as a sequel can get. That means you must at least be familiar with the tale when you step into the multiplex. Now arm yourself with as much popcorn as you can consume in the theater, because you would not want to miss out on a single moment with James McAvoy and Fassbender who share on screen chemistry that is better than Bogart and Bergman. If there ever was a dialog that popped up in my brain rather inappropriately and with extreme inopportune timing was, 'I want to have what they are having' when McAvoy and Fassbender... Am going to watch the movie again!

They say there are no original ideas out there, and we can believe that. Storytelling themes are universal and we understand when a character or scene gets "borrowed" here and there.
The film, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

X-Men: First Class is a wonderful weekend entertainment. Half fun and half fearsome. It is not a great comic book movie, like "Spider-Man 2". It is not in 3-D, which is a mercy... Go watch...
