Overheard at the screening: ‘Mark Wahlberg curses so wonderfully!’, ‘Why is the kid so stupid?’, ‘Kate Beckinsale should only be vampire. Anything else is beyond her.’
Why am I hiding behind other people’s comments to start a review?
What else do I say about a straightforward, formulaic last-heist film?

Why am I hiding behind other people’s comments to start a review?
What else do I say about a straightforward, formulaic last-heist film?
It’s a story of a bad guy (Wahlberg) who is now married (stop that kissing and good wife act Kate Beckinsale, you have two kids now! Jeez!) and has given up the life of smuggling contraband goods across borders. But crime does not let go of its sons so easy. Its tentacles reach out for Wahlberg once more. His wife’s little brother is caught by the bad guys because he has thrown all the contraband goods over into the water when the customs officers come aboard the cargo boat. Now Mark has to make good his brother-in-law’s debt.
The planning, the team, the actual heist, the double cross, the murders, the car chases, the action, the triple cross, the police dragnet, the escape is very predictable, but very welcome. The cinematography, especially for the night is brilliantly done. What starts out as a dull story becomes interesting with the twists that are added every fifteen minutes. The twists and the action works for it to be eminently watchable. The film grows on you like fungus. You cannot tell anyone you really liked it, but you cannot say it was terrible either. This is a good B-grade action flick. Watch it if you have already watched Haywire twice, The Descendants two times and Agneepath once.

Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss, Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), Chris is forced back into doing what he does best— running contraband—to settle Andy’s debt. Chris is a legendary smuggler and quickly assembles a crew with the help of his best friend, Sebastian (Ben Foster), for one final run to Panama and back, hoping to return with millions in counterfeit bills. Things quickly fall apart and with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target.
