Happy birthday to the Bollywood heartthrob who is known as Prem! Yes,It is Salman Khan's birthday! And what a way to end the year on FilmOrbit than to deconstruct his film career and see him in his many avatars.
We loved Salman Khan
when he was but a boy with the longest eyelashes and large saucer eyes in his early movies. Who doesn't love him in Andaz Apna Apna? He has comic timing that he has not lost even though his screen persona has changed over the years.
He was always Prem. The man who gives up his love when he realises that the girl (Madhuri Dixit) loves his best friend (Sanjay Dutt) instead (Saajan). He was always the carefree younger son of the familya sagas, who could charm the gorgeous saalis (Madhuri Dixit again!) in movies like Hum Aapke Hain Koun!
was Prem even when his hair was strangely long and his looks gave the gossips fodder about botox and steroids.
He's been controversy's favorite child. But has always managed to remain a star who have a rabidly loyal fan following. How many stars wear a bracelet (reported to have been a gift from his dad Salim Khan, of the famous Salim-Javed duo) that becomes the style statement of his fans? If you are a Salman fan, then you have worn the sunglasses
the collar just as he has at least once in front of the mirror. But you would have heard as many stories about his good deeds as you have heard the tales of drunken violence. He may heave earned the tag 'bad boy', but he has reinvented himself so brilliantly, that we now look forward to the moment where the man takes off his shirt in the movies and beats up the bad guys to pulp!
I say Prem is beating up the baddies? Sigh. The loverboy image was not even created when you saw him in Bandhan and Karan Arjun, remember? He could fight! Woo-hah! And his penchant to fitness was never questioned. Even in his awesome special appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai had aunties asking him if he had a younger brother who exercised shirtless! His embarrassed, 'Kya keh rahe ho!' (what are you aying!) endeared him to millions.
He played lover
on screen happily. Remember Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya?.He casually tramples Sushmita Sen's heart and then earns gushing sighs from every woman in the audience when he falls truly in love with her and redeems himself. In Salaam-E-Ishq, although there were many stories running parallel, his story is the most sigh-worthy.
Well he changed that in collaboration with none other than Prabhu Deva. Wanted was the bets thing that has happened to him in my humble opinion. It's only after that he wore a uniform again in Bodyguard and has ruled the box office since. No other star comes close to the records he has had at single screens as well as the multiplexes. We love Salman Khan at FilmOrbit, and wish him the best for 2012! We've listed our favorite songs of the shirtless star, hope you can add yours...

We call him Thalaivar! We take prints of his movies to the temple and burn camphor on palms before the first showing of his movies. We attempt to copy his style of wearing his coolers. We even attempted to smoke because we saw him light up on the screen.
