Born Sept. 12, 1972, in London, Jason Statham literally dove his way to fame, gaining the attention of modeling agencies and photographers while competing on Great Britain's diving team.After signing a contract with the clothing company French Connection, Statham caught the eye of director Guy Ritchie, whose first film the company was producing. Ritchie immediately signed on Statham as part of the lead ensemble for that film: 1998's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.After this auspicious beginning, Statham quickly established himself as an action star in the making in films such as Ghosts of Mars (2001) and The Transporter (2002). In more recent years, Statham's box-office clout has continued to rise in films including The Italian Job (in which he plays Handsome Rob, a racecar driver and womanizer), Cellular and the Ritchie-directed Revolver (opposite Ray Liotta).
