Amrita Rao entered the world of modeling quite by chance, when she auditioned for an advertising film. She was selected and since then appeared in a number of television spots for several products. She made her cinematic debut in the 2002 film Ab Ke Baras , but gained recognition only after the success of her 2003 film, Ishq Vishk, in which her portrayal as Payal earned her the girl-next door image. Film industrywallahs began calling her the Ishq Vishk Pyaar Vyaar girl.
Success soon followed for her in 2004 films like Masti and Main Hoon Na . Her most recent release, Vivah opposite Shahid Kapoor was a success. Amrita can t get over the fact that she is a part of film industry because she had never thought of being a full time actress. She is now doing Athidhi with Telugu movie star Mahesh Babu.
Amrita feels every character she plays has been a sort of professional journey. She wants to be an actress first then an entertainer that is why she doesn t want to do item numbers.
